Taiwan’s Mobile Payment Users Break Six Million in 2019

Taiwan’s FSC (Financial Supervisory Commission) recently announced that Taiwan’s mobile payment users hit a new high at 6.05 million as of October 31, 2019, the Central News Agency reported on December 3. As of the end of October 2019, Line Pay Money - the mobile payment service jointly launched by Taiwanese iPass and Line Biz+ Taiwan - ranked first in terms of the number of users in Taiwan at 1.87 million. With JKoPay having 1.11 million users, the consolidated share of the top-2 mobile payment services reached 49.3%. Mobile payment services offered by E.Sun Commercial Bank and China’s leading online payment service provider Alipay ranked third with a total of 1.06 million users. However, in terms of transaction value between a consumer and a store, JKoPay ranked first with NT$1.12 billion (US$37.3 million; US$1 = NT$30), followed by Line Pay Money’s NT$326 million (US$10.9 million), and E.Sun Commercial Bank’s NT$150 million (US$5 million). Compared to the same period last year, Taiwan’s accumulative mobile payment users have jumped 60.05% to 6.07 million in 2019, up from 2.27 million in 2018.
